What is the Enriched Opportunities research programme?

The Enriched Opportunities Programme is a joint research project between ExtraCare and the University of Bradford. Together, we have developed a model of care which aims to enhance the well-being and quality of life of older people suffering from dementia and other mental health problems. The research aims to evaluate whether the programme enables residents with dementia to remain in sheltered housing for longer, and the extent to which it enhances their quality of life, well-being and physical and mental health. Throughout 2007 and 2008 the research is measuring and comparing results in ten of ExtraCare’s sheltered housing schemes and villages - five study sites where the Programme has been fully operational since the beginning, and five control sites where the programme started later in the research.
